On the road – day 3: Ajdovscina-Logatec (35 km)

Listen to the travelogue (in Italian): http://radiofrancigena.com/

This travelogue is coming a bit late, but we’re all fine: the only reason is that we received a very warm welcome here in Logatec yesterday evening and I needed some rest after dinner.

Yesterday we left Ajdovscina and reached, after 19km uphill the site of Ad Pirum, modern Hrušica, where we had lunch. We also had a chance to discuss a little bit of the battle of the Vipava valley, fought by Teodosius and Flavius Eugenius and won by the first: this was the event that allowed the spreading of Christianity in the whole Empire.

When we reached Lanišče, we finally left the main road, to walk on a track in the woods. These woods have been one of the most dangerous places in the region and Francis told us the story of a Roman centurion who was killed by the bandits in a place named Scelerata. Zdenka and Ivanka told us that the tradition of the bandits is kept alive by some burglars still operating along the main road, where the cellphone doesn’t work.

In Kalce, we met Rosy, who brought us an homemade bread with greaves… delicious! She also led us to Logatec by a shortcut.

In the evening, we presented the project in the library and enjoyed the hospitality of the municipality and of all the people of Logatec, for which I’m very grateful!
